Basic keyboard controls

Bad Time Simulator follows the familiar Undertale battle layout. The arrow keys control your soul during attacks, while confirm and cancel keys are used in menus. Click the game once before using the keyboard so the embedded player receives your input.

Arrow keysMove the heart-shaped soul inside the battle box.
Z or EnterConfirm a menu choice and advance dialogue.
X or ShiftCancel or return to the previous menu when the game supports it.

Red soul movement

In red soul mode, you can move freely in four directions. Avoid holding a direction longer than necessary. Short taps preserve space around the soul and make it easier to correct your position when a second attack enters the box.

Try to watch the open space instead of staring directly at the heart. Your goal is not always to stay in the center; it is to move toward the next safe gap without trapping yourself against an edge.

Blue soul mode

When the soul turns blue, gravity changes the movement rules. Left and right still reposition the soul, while the upward input acts like a jump. A quick press produces a short jump; holding it longer usually creates a higher jump.

Practice controlling jump height before trying to move quickly. Many blue-soul attacks are easier when you clear a bone with the smallest jump that works.

Beginner survival routine

  1. Focus the game. Click inside the player before the battle starts so keyboard inputs do not scroll the page.
  2. Use short inputs. Tap directions instead of holding them through an entire pattern.
  3. Learn one attack at a time. Treat each defeat as information about where the next safe gap appears.
  4. Reset your position. When a pattern pauses, move toward an area that leaves room on both sides.

When the controls do not respond

Click inside the game frame and try again. If the arrow keys scroll the webpage, the browser is focused on the page rather than the game. Reloading the page can also restore focus after switching tabs. Keyboard mappings may vary slightly between fan-game builds, so use the control prompt shown by the active game when it differs from this guide.
